About the Simple Calculator
This is a real on-screen calculator you click or tap through, built for the moments a physical calculator would normally handle: totaling a grocery cart in your head-check, working out a tip, running the arithmetic behind a budget, or just wanting satisfying buttons instead of typing numbers into a text field. It behaves like the calculator that's sat on a desk or in a kitchen drawer for decades, just accessible from any browser.
The memory keys (M+, M−, MR, MC) are the feature a plain typed-in calculator can't replicate easily — they let you park a running subtotal while you compute something else, then bring it back later without writing it down. That's genuinely useful for anything with several intermediate totals: a shopping list, a set of measurements, a multi-step conversion.
It also responds to your physical keyboard — number keys, the four operators, Enter for equals — so once you're used to it, it's just as fast as typing into any calculator app, with the buttons there for anyone who'd rather click.
How it’s calculated
Each number key appends a digit to the number currently being entered, and each operator key locks in the number so far and waits for the next one — press equals and it performs the pending operation and shows the result.
The memory keys work independently of whatever's on the display: M+ adds the current display value into a separate memory slot, M− subtracts it from that slot, MR recalls whatever's stored there back onto the display, and MC clears the memory slot back to zero. Nothing else on the calculator touches that stored value until you tell it to.
Frequently asked questions
What does the M+ button do?
M+ adds whatever's currently on the display into the calculator's memory slot, which is separate from the number you're actively working with — useful for building up a running total across several separate calculations.
How is MR different from MC?
MR (memory recall) brings the stored memory value back onto the display without changing it; MC (memory clear) resets the stored memory value to zero. Use MR to reuse a saved total, MC when you're done with it.
Can I use my keyboard instead of clicking?
Yes — number keys, +, −, × (or *), ÷ (or /), and Enter (for equals) all work directly, so you can operate the whole calculator without touching the mouse.
Why does the calculator show an error on division?
Dividing by zero has no defined answer, so the calculator shows an error instead of a number rather than silently returning something misleading.
